Song of the Week
Song: I Surrender by Hillsong UNITED ft. Lauren Daigle
“13 Now when Joshua was by Jericho, he looked up, and behold, a man was standing opposite him with his drawn sword in his hand, and Joshua went to him and said to him, ‘Are you for us or for our adversaries?’”– Joshua 5:13 AMP
The first word of this verse caught my eye.
Why? Because it represents an important lesson Joshua learned.
Only when Joshua was there did the man appear. (This man was agreed to have been an angel of the Lord, according to scholars.)
For all my gamers out there, I’m sure you know what’s happening.
Achievement unblocked: You unlocked a new quest.
That was what happened to Joshua; only when Joshua was at Jericho was the new thing unlocked.
You’re probably wondering what the new thing is.
Very simply, it is God promising Jericho to Israel.
That’s in straightforward terms.
A much more in-depth analysis suggests more nuanced achievements. Most notably, Joshua realizes he is a medium and a servant, not a king.
Let’s delve deeper!
God Puts Joshua in His Place
Whatever arrogance Joshua had that was stirring in him was probably subdued.
It may not be evident to you first glance, so let me break it down for you in chronological order.
In Joshua 3-4, Joshua gets Israel across the Jordan River. Seeing he was able to part the water, coupled with the praises from the Israelites, it is only human for pride to reach his heart.
Then, in Joshua 5:13, God indirectly tells Joshua He is a servant. It takes someone in authority to put you in your place. (That is not inherently a bad thing. When you’re belittling yourself, God puts you in your place by reminding you are victorious in God’s eyes.)
How? God tells Him that it is His will for them to win.
That means victory isn’t by Joshua’s hands – it is always from God’s.
God Is Doing a New Thing in Your Life
When you get to a new season in your life, God has new things in store for you – New blessings and miracles and new trials.
We will never get rid of tribulations. But we will also never run out of miracles.
Last, we will never run out of God’s love and favor.
Call to Action
When you’re facing new trials, start celebrating because new blessings are just around the corner.
“38 Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”– Luke 6:38 NIV
God bless you, and remember to celebrate and worship!
