A Better You: This Is a Sign for You from God– Joshua 2:1

We’re taking a look again at Joshua 2:1. I know I spent a lot of time on the Book of Joshua already, but trust me, it’s just too good to overlook.

A quick recap:

“2 Then Joshua son of Nun secretly sent two spies from Shittim. ‘Go, look over the land,’ he said, ‘especially Jericho.’ So they went and entered the house of a prostitute named Rahab and stayed there.”

– Joshua 2:1 NIV

Herein lies a gap that the bible doesn’t fill, did the spies or Joshua personally knew Rahab, or was she a random stranger that offered to lodge the spies of Jericho’s enemies?

It was not stated anywhere in the bible how the spies ended up in Rahab’s house. This leads me to believe that it was out of Rahab’s goodwill (and perhaps distaste she held against Jericho’s king) to allow the spies to lodge at her house.

The spies, however, did not know of her true intentions at the time.

If I was one of them, I think I would have been stone-cold terrified. Trapped in the enemy’s territory while hiding in a stranger’s house, it seems like being captured was inevitable.

There is a point of reference they used, though. An unshakable, unstoppable constant that was seeking their wellbeing and success:

God.

God was with them all the way through. He never left them, and He will never leave you. He will send His angels after you to protect you. He will cause things to happen in your favor. It may not seem like it now, but it will work out for you in the end.

6 So why would I fear the future?
For your goodness and love pursue me all the days of my life.
Then afterward, when my life is through,
I’ll return to your glorious presence to be forever with you!”

– Psalms 23:6 TPT

There’s a catch… God will only speak if you listen.

Managing your emotional crises

At the center of every emotional crisis is a desire for certainty.

Who better to provide absolute certainty other than an absolute God?

By surrendering our emotions to Him and accepting and feeling the emotions He gave us to have, we are taking a step nearer to God.

Only by surrender can we truly live in the God-given purposes we are called to.

Hearing God Every Day

Practical steps to take to hear God.

35 The next morning, Jesus got up long before daylight, left the house while it was dark, and made his way to a secluded place to give himself to prayer.”

– Mark 1:35

God doesn’t boom His voice usually.

Honestly, in my humble opinion, it would make everything so so so so much easier if God just shouted at me from heaven.

I would be making a though life decision and if I chose the wrong way He would just shout, “NOOOOOOOOO!”

That would make things much clearer for me. Maybe you feel the same way too.

After years of walking with Christ, this was one of the many things I couldn’t understand, until recently.

The days of heartache and suffering has led me to this conclusion:

He doesn’t force His will on us. He wants us to want Him. He wants us to seek Him. If we posture our hearts towards Him, we begin to see God in everything we do. That is when we are living in the testament of God.

When we seek Him, we are drawing near to Him. That’s what God wants.

He doesn’t want to enforce His will on our lives; He wants us to pick Him. He wants us to reciprocate the love He has for us.

Isn’t that all we ever want too?

Call to Action

Do this, as often as possible: Find a quiet place and hear Him. No music, no video calls. Really listen to Him, to what He wants to say to you.

I know it’s hard for some of my readers due to your hectic lifestyle. So, I just want to let you know that the time of solitude does not have to be very long. You can start from 3 minutes and work your way up from there.

Trust me, when you’re in the zone, you don’t ever want to leave.

God’s presence is addictive.

God bless you and seek God every day!
